Michael DeCaprio ResizedMichael DeCaprio is first and foremost a teacher. He spent 12 years in the high school ELA classroom before entering administration. He has spent the last five years at WSWHE BOCES providing support at all levels- from teacher on up to Superintendent- on the topics of Common Core, APPR, and the use of data in the classroom. He has presented in the past at Datapalooza, SCDN, and NYSSBA. He has also been published in SAANYS Vanguard and ASCD’s Core Connection.

 

 

Steve Kaagan resizedDr. Steve Kaagan is Professor Emeritus, Michigan State University, Senior Partner in a German-American management consulting firm, and Associate with Climate Interactive.

He has a bachelor’s from Williams College and a master’s and doctorate from Harvard University, also honorary doctorates from Williams College and Green Mountain College in Vermont. Prior to teaching at Michigan State he served as President of Hurricane Island Outward Bound (1989-91), Commissioner of Education for the State of Vermont (1982-88), and Provost of Pratt Institute in New York City (1977-82).

He has written extensively on experiential approaches to leadership development.  Prominent titles include Leadership Games; 30 Reflective Staff Development Exercises for Educators; and Developing Teacher Leaders.

Using Climate Interactive’s computer simulations he has facilitated multiple sessions for university faculty, community and business leaders, teachers, and students across the country.

His experience embraces wide-ranging service as an adviser to government agencies, corporations and educational institutions and extensive travel, including mountaineering expeditions in the Himalayas and Andes; and Rugby Football Refereeing for the USA Rugby Football Union.

He lives in Asheville, North Carolina with his partner Susan and two spoiled dogs.

 

JuxJuxtapoze is a music trio from the Adirondacks, featuring Vinnie Leddick, Tim Ellifritz and Michelle Howland. They perform original music filled with emotion, turning everyday experiences into timeless melodic journeys in the spirit of good storytelling. Together they have several decades of experience as professional musicians performing in the region. Their newest EP Change features lyrics and themes that touch on environmental and personal introspection.

 

 

Tim Hawthorne Resized

Timothy L. Hawthorne is an assistant professor of geographic information systems (GIS) in the department of sociology at University of Central Florida. He earned his Ph.D. in geography in 2010 from Ohio State University. He is a broadly trained human geographer with deep interests in citizen science GIS, community geography, qualitative GIS, and critical GIS. Professor Hawthorne is Principal Investigator of the Citizen Science GIS Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Site in Orlando and Belize, funded by the National Science Foundation, and Co-Principal Investigator on a grant from the National Science Foundation Coupled-Natural Human Systems Program. He serves as Chair of the Applied Geography Specialty Group for the Association of American Geographers. He also is an associate editor for both the Journal of Geography and The International Journal of Applied Geospatial Research and is the founding director of The Geospatial STEM Academy, a K-12 STEM initiative.

 

Christine Muisteri ResizedChristine Muisteri, originally from Dutchess County, NY, majored in Environmental Studies at Skidmore College. She has been working with Citizen Science GIS since 2014, most recently in Belize with Open Reef and the CSGIS REU.

 

 

 

 

Steve resizedDr. Stephen Danna is Dean of the SUNY Plattsburgh at Queensbury Branch Campus. Stephen has 29 years experience in teaching and administration, and prior to that, worked with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office as an oceanographer. Dr. Danna is a certified Climate Reality Leader, and has received teaching fellowships from Princeton University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Drew University. In 1997, Steve was honored with the National Science Teachers Association’s Exemplary High School Science Teaching Award. Dr. Danna is co-founder of North Country Climate Reality.

 

 

YCPLOGO2 - Youth ClimateA team of staff, alumni and current students will present on the Youth Climate Program and the Convening Young Leaders for Climate Resilience project. Alumni and current students have leadership roles in planning summits, implementing climate action plans and supporting summits in other places.

 

 

 

 

 

Bill Throop resized

William Throop is Professor of Philosophy and Environmental Studies and Director of the Environmental Studies program at Green Mountain College.  He was provost at Green Mountain for twelve years, during which he helped to build the sustainability focus of the College and led the creation of its graduate programs. At the national level, he served on the board of directors of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) for six years and was elected chair of the board for his last two years. He has also served on the editorial boards of Restoration Ecology and Environmental Ethics. His PhD work at Brown University focused on philosophy of science and epistemology, but his recent publications have been on ethical issues in ecological restoration and sustainability education. He is currently working on a book project titled: Flourishing amid the Age of Climate Change – Finding the Heart of Sustainability.

 

 

Patrick resizedPatrick Nelson attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he participated in research in Computational Biophysics and he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry and Biophysics. Patrick served as Special Projects Coordinator in the office of New York State Assembly member Phil Steck (D-Colonie) aiding with communications, legislation, and constituent services for the 2017 Legislative Session. He is a member of the New York Progressive Action Network and previously served on the executive committee. He is also a member of the Saratoga County Democratic Committee, a Ruling Elder at the Stillwater United Church, and a co-founder of North Country Climate Reality.
